Human Factors & Ergonomics in Healthcare: Design Systems that Protect Patients & Professionals

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Healthcare professionals work tirelessly to deliver excellent care, yet preventable errors continue to harm patients worldwide. The challenge isn't a lack of skill or commitment but the systems which often work against rather than support them. Human Factors Engineering and Ergonomics offers a proven, evidence-based approach to redesign healthcare work systems for safety, efficiency, and well-being.

This session will introduce Human Factors Engineering and Ergonomics to participants and will give them a fresh perspective on their workplace, equip them with practical tools that can be applied immediately and an understanding of how HFE aligns with the WHO Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021–2030.

Why attend? Because safer systems benefit everyone: patients receive better care, and healthcare workers thrive in environments designed to support rather than hinder their expertise.

This event has a mixed medium of instruction in both English and Arabic languages.

By the end of this event you will be able to:

  1. Understand Human Factors Engineering and Ergonomics in healthcare context.
  2. Know how human limitations interact with system design to contribute to common safety problems.
  3. Recognize basic HFE principles and frameworks and apply them to everyday clinical workflows.
  4. Identify opportunities in their own workplace where simple ergonomic or system-design changes could reduce risk and improve staff and patient experience.
  5. Understand the importance and start integrating human factors thinking into local quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, in line with the WHO Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021–2030.
